SkillsUSA Member Medals at Nationals

Over 120 Vermont members traveled to Louisville, Kentucky to compete against the top winners from each state.  Bringing home the gold medal in Baking, Robin Smith impressed the judges with his creative twist of a Baked Alaska, renamed Baked Vermont, using Sweet Doe Gelato from Chelsea instead of ice cream.  Delighting their tastebuds, judges from around the country were saddened, however, to learn that the center of this delicacy is only available in New England and portions of New York.

A silver medal was awarded to Jesse Brown who competed in the Motorcycle Repair event.  Not only did Jesse step up to receive the medal, but in the process was the incredibly lucky winner of the 2019 Harley-Davidson Sportster!  That makes three times in the last five years that Vermonters have brought home a Harley!

Addison Alexander also graced the SkillsUSA stage with a bronze medal in Welding Sculpture.  This popular event showcases the fine motor skills combined with imagination necessary to  envision and create a welding sculpture within the short time allotted.  Expertise in medal, welding equipment, speed, and ingenuity are evident with the final result.  In this case, it was an eagle as it swooped down to capture a fish in its talons.  Truly a magnificent piece of artwork, Addison’s grandfather was the inspiration behind the design.
